My Tori Is a Decade!

Tori turned 10 on May 13th. What a huge milestone! Although I miss the years that have slipped through my fingers so quickly, I am loving the young lady she is becoming and am so excited for the fun years to come. So here is my birthday tribute to my little girl...

I can't imagine having a sweeter daughter than Tori. She is such a helper to me with so many things around the house. She never complains about doing her chores, is always eager to help with Jaxon, and tries so hard to be the best little girl she can be. Tori has her faults, but the amazing thing about her is that she will recognize them, admit them, and then try her best to change. What an admirable quality!

Tori is such an organized little girl. Every few months she asks me to help her organize her desk or dresser drawers and then she raves on about how nice and fresh organized drawer are. She has been commenting lately on how excited she is for middle school (which is two years away)because then she can be organized with all of her different classes - she even knows exactly what kind of notebook she wants for middle school to maximize her organizing potential. Tori is also amazing at organizing and prioritizing her day. Every day she knows exactly what needs to get done (chores, homework, piano, softball, reading, etc.), and then in the morning she decides exactly when everything will get accomplished. Brilliant! I never have to nag her or remind her to do anything!

Tori is a perfectionist. Not over-the-top, OCD-like or anything. But she is always striving to do the best in everything she does. This past year both her paino teacher and her school teacher have described Tori as a perfectionist simply because she works hard and does her very best. She gets discouraged when she doesn't do as well as she knows she is capable because she understands her potential and is constantly striving to reach it.

Tori is an amazing big sister and is truly Jaxon's second mother. He will even sometimes go to her for something if I've already told him no. She comforts him if he is hurt, can put him to sleep as well as I can, tends to his needs and wants, and has even changed a poopy diaper! Her relationship with Jacob, on the other hand, is a little more volatile, but she really does do a lot for him, too.

As her mother, my most favorite part about Tori is how much I love to be with her. The older she gets, the more fun she is to hang out with and have "girl time" with. We are alike in so many ways so we understand each other very well - I think it helps that we are the only girls in the house so we have to stick together. I feel blessed that (I'm crossing my fingers here) I have such a great relationship with her and that we can talk about anything. I love it! She makes being a mom so easy because she is so sweet and fun and is such a good girl. I hope that never changes!

I love you, Tori! Happy Birthday!
Tori decided on an ice cream pie for her birthday. She also got contacts (notice no glasses in this picture) and she got a haircut a couple weeks ago. She looks like a totally different little girl. I'm sure she will write all about her birthday happenings on her blog so check it out. For those of you who want to be invited to it, let me know and we'll send you an invite.
