My Tricky Kids

Does anyone notice anything fishy about this picture (other than Jaxon being in his underwear)? Focus on Jaxon......

Recently, Jaxon began an obsession with th Wii. It's the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up in the morning, and it's the first thing he asks to do when Jacob gets home from school. My kids enjoy occasionally playing the Wii, but I wouldn't say any of them are obsessive about it. Jaxon usually enjoys watching Jacob and occasionally joins in, which typically leads to Jacob getting upset with Jaxon at how poorly he plays. But I noticed last weekend that Tori, Jacob, and Jaxon all played together with no fighting or problems between them. Normally some type of disagreement or intolerance arises when they play the Wii together, so it struck me as odd that there were no issues. This happened for a couple of days (which is actually unusual for them to play that often) until Tori and Jacob enlightened me.....

In their efforts to be more successful at Super Mario Bros. and appease Jaxon at the same time, Tori and Jacob have told Jaxon that he can be Mario. They give him a controller that isn't plugged into anything (that's the answer to the above picture and question) and then they tell Jaxon that Jacob (who is actually playing Mario) is an invisible character. So Jaxon plays contently thinking he is an awesome Mario, and Tori and Jacob are happy that Jaxon isn't really playing. Pretty ingenious of the two older kids. Jaxon on the other hand......well, I'm not sure he's the brightest crayon in the box. OK, he's only three. I wonder how long it will take for him to figure it out.

Here is a video of him playing. (Sorry it's on its side) He is totally into it and thinks whole-heartedly that he is Mario. He will play like this for an hour (or however long I let him). Part of me feels bad for him, but the other part of me is just happy that the kids are all happy.

My vote is let this charade go on for as long as possible. Harmony at play is such a flighty thing. Enjoy it.

That is fabulous! I have to steal this idea... our kids have the same issue with our Wii, too! Enjoy the peace!

we bought Kelton a Wii remote for his birthday so he could "play" and not drive Michael and Ethan crazy. We haven't ever sinked it so it works great!

Hillarious! How smart are those two? I say keep it up. It will make for a great story to tell in 10 years.

That's hilarious, and so cute. Harlie likes playing rock band on the Wii at her Grandma's house with an unplugged guitar, so he's not alone.
