Jaxon definitely has to be our silliest kid and constantly keeps us laughing. He is at my favorite age where he is inquisitive, naive, and is still trying to make sense of his world. It's so much fun to hang out with him all day as he makes new discoveries or is just relaxed and being himself. We never know what he'll come up with and every day is an adventure!
Jaxon has the greatest dance moves you've ever seen! I'll have to get a video and post it because it's a crack-up. Any time he hears some good hip-hop, he just can't help but get down and show his stuff....even if we're in the middle of the store! I'm seriously considering getting him into a hip-hop dancing class. We'll see.....
A couple weeks ago, Jaxon and I were in the car and he began asking questions about what happens to our body when we die. During our discussion, he couldn't grasp the concept of a cemetery.....so we made a detour that day and spent a little time at a local cemetery looking at and reading the headstones. It was quite an interesting day.
Last week I overheard Matt and Jaxon talking about potions, and in particular, love potions. Jaxon wanted to make one right then and there to give to his current crush. He of course thought they were real and over the next couple of days, he continued to ask Matt to make one. Matt finally had to break it to him that potions don't really work, they are just pretend, but Jaxon didn't believe him.
So a couple of days later, while we were working on a school science experiment for Jacob, Jaxon decided he was going to make his very own "dragon potion." He thought if he made a concoction and drank it, he would turn into a dragon. So he proceeded to mix a variety of kitchen ingredients: water, salt, sugar, pepper, bananas, and a couple other things. Here is the result:
And yes.....he drank it!! He actually drank quite a bit and then waited expectantly for the change to begin. A few minutes later he stripped off his clothes and told me he needed to wait outside for the change and even argued that he needed to sleep outside that night so he would be outdoors when he changed into a dragon! After enjoying his cuteness for a while, we tried to break it to him that it wouldn't really happen. But then the next morning as we were snuggling, he said, "I wonder when it's going to happen." I asked, "When what will happen?" He replied, "When I'll change into a dragon." Awww, that kid is so darling! He was so innocent and believing, I found myself willing his little body to change into a dragon just so he wouldn't be disappointed. Man, I love that little boy!
I know I've rambled on enough already, but I have one more Jaxon quirk to share: Jaxon LOVES to draw! For the past two months it's been pretty much an obsession. At first it was the only thing he wanted to do all day. He would call it his "work" and would turn down offers to do other fun activities. He went through construction and scratch paper so quickly that Matt had to bring scratch paper home from work.

This is a picture he drew a month or so ago. It was supposed to be for his friend Gracie, but I liked it so much I kept it. I'm sure you can tell it's a knight slaying a dragon. Admittedly, Matt drew the sword, but everything else is all Jaxon. I love the details he includes: breastplate, face mask, shield, even the dragon's mean heart.
He would leave masses of paper, pictures, crayons, and scissors all over the house, so I had to move a desk upstairs and give him his own workspace so we could keep the chaos to a minimum. He also discovered a love for scissors and especially loves to cut out hearts. You can tell we have run out of construction paper since he is making black hearts these days.
His drawing has improved dramatically over the past couple months, and so has his letter-writing. This was my Mother's Day card. I love the little accents he included on some of the letters.
