RAIN!

I usually don't get personal or sentimental on my blog, but this entry is going to be different for a very odd reason. Brace yourselves for a tear-jerker here. The other night we had a great downpour of rain! I know, get out the tissues and wipe the tears. Seriously, though, rain is a rare phenomenon here in Vegas and words can't describe how much Matt and I love the rain!

Matt and I were on our way to bed at 1 o'clock in the morning on Friday night when we heard the rain on the roof and literally ran to the balcony door. Sure enough, we had some awesome, good old fashioned wet rain coming down good and hard. I went out on the balcony and stood out there for a couple of minutes just to feel the wetness on my face and body. I can't even describe how amazing it felt! I even got all choked up and sentimental thinking about how much I miss Oregon and the rain. It's second nature to me and I miss the wetness terribly. So we went to bed and fell asleep with the balcony door open so we could hear the rain coming down as we drifted off to sleep. To be perfectly honest (and please don't laugh!) I fell to sleep with tears in my eyes wondering why I live in the desert. And then I had to recite to myself all the reasons I love the desert and Las Vegas.

Then at 5 o'clock in the morning the rain once again woke us up, but this time it was a huge downpour. To me, it was the most beautiful sound in the world. But the carpet next to the door was wet so Matt closed the door and we went back to sleep again. By the time I woke next, the sun was warm and shining, with only a few clouds in the sky. Of course I was disappointed at how quickly it came and went, but I feel so blessed to have stayed up late to experience this rare occurrence called rain.

That is how I feel about sun in the winter in Rochester. It will move me to tears any day. Glad you got to have such a great rain fall.

I love the rain too. You have to love rain to live in Oregon. Although I am ready for no more rain now. I love a summer rain when it's warm/hot and it rains. I love the smell and everything. I bet rain in Vegas is like that.

Believe it or not it seemed growing up here that it rained much more. I remember days at a time & many more floods, unfortunately. The kids would ride down Oakey on their innertubes. It seems it has been far and few between the last 10 years...I guess that is why we are in a drought, eh?

I have to admit (sheepishly) that I have had tears in my eyes during a rain storm too. There really isn't much better than the smell of wet sidewalks and the cleanliness of a dirty city. Every morning I get up and look to see if there are clouds in the sky. Unfortunately, I too live in a desert and it is a rare occasion. Congratulations on your rain. I am jealous.
